Ukraine, Belarus and Russia rebar did supply 20-40% of UK rebar but due to the conflict the Trade Remedies Authority which is a sub department of Department of International Trade proposed to lift the ban on Chinese rebar.

But the British Association of Reinforcement brands these plans as ‘utter madness’ as the reason Chinese rebar is banned in the UK is because it flooded the market with cheap imports 6 years ago seriously compromising the safety of key infrastructure.

Australia’s Melbourne Eye had to be closed down amidst safety concerns as it used dumped Chinese steal for the structure which made the structure unsafe (China has been accused of dumping steel in Australia on more than once occasion).

UK Steel says opening the economy to cheap dumped Chinese steel would completely wipe out the UK’s steel industry.
