Williams & Co Plumbing and Heating supplies is sponsoring Women Installers Together Conference, the only national event for all women plumbers, gas engineers, other tradeswomen and trainees. It will take place in Central London on July 6 2022 and feature guest speaker Mandy Hickson, one of the first woman fast jet fighter pilots.

Despite delays, setbacks and scandals the railway line formerly known as Crossrail is finally set to open in June. It is predicted that 10 stations on the Central line will open this year with Bond Street opening later. The £19bn project was started in 2012 and runs east to west from Reading to Shenfield.

HS2 unveils new Euston designs

ARUP, WSP and Grimshaw Architects have drawn up new less complex, more efficient plans for the new Euston Station. The new geometric roof that opens to natural light is being built offsite and assembled onsite. The new design can be built in a single stage and will create 3,000 jobs. The new development will feature public gardens and 2,000 cycle parking space.

£1.9bn roads contracts procurement
National Highways Lower Thames Crossing is split into two contracts North of the Thames in Essex and South of the river in Kent. There is a third additional contract for £2.1bn for tunnels. Tenders will be judged largely on their ability to deliver reduced or neutral carbon emissions projects. The Lower Thames Crossing includes a new longest UK road tunnel (currently Hindhead Tunnel holds the record).

Co-developed by Electronic Media Services and COMIT Projects and funded by Innovate UK, the new technology has been well received and plans to further rollout with greater functionality are underway.
Equans wins £160m Birmingham Housing Contract
The 5-year contract currently held by Equans for 9,000 homes in the North has been extended for another 2 years plus an additional 31,000 homes to the east and west of Birmingham. The contract is for the maintenance and upkeep of the homes including 250,000 repairs every year. Birmingham is the UK’s largest social housing landlord.
Atkins gets Government job to decarbonise the portfolio
Atkins has been tasked by the Department for Work and Pensions to assess its ability to be carbon neutral firstly with 50 Job Centre Plus sites across the UK. The review will include site surveys, consumption data & carbon emissions & asset reviews for example heating & airflow. The review will deploy digital twins to help assess possible scenarios. This is the first phase of the project with the next full phase to provide guidance on decarbonising the complete portfolio of up to 850 of the Department for Work and Pensions’ buildings.
