UK Construction Output Highest in 7 Years
Housebuilding, civil engineering, and commercial work expanded at the highest rate since 2014 in March 2021 due to rescheduled start dates of many major projects and increased spending in infrastructure. This caused the most jobs to be created in 2 years and a strong upturn in materials demand along with longer wait times on deliveries and increase in prices, but mostly from imported items which could be reflecting Brexit customs issues. Confidence in commercial segment and positivity regarding UK general economic situation could be driving the recovery. Predictions are that optimistic that the positive bounce back will continue with lockdowns ending and normality on the way. However, materials have become more expensive due to inflation and supply chains are under pressure which could put a dampener on the revival.

Controversial New 48 Story City Building Approval
The ‘skinny’ 197m tower to get the go-ahead Tuesday 13 April will replace the 1970’s Bury House and will include community & green space, an arcade, and office space. It’s just 50m from the Gherkin and could neighbour the Tulip if it gets the go-ahead after City lawyers asked the mayor of London to deny the application as school children & community groups would have no visitor access to the attraction.

Lower Thames Crossing will learn from HS2 Complaints
Lower Thames Crossing and HS2 Teams are talking to discuss how the Thames team can avoid the 1,400 complaints received by the HS2 Team last year regarding heavy vehicles, COVID-19 rule-breaking, environmental breaches and road closures. As a result of the review, these aspects were considered, and new contracts drawn up for better alignment. As the two teams will be working as neighbours, they will continue to collaborate to keep both projects on track and on time with minimum disruption to surrounding areas.
