Another National Infrastructure Assessment – more jobs & contracts

The first one was issued in 2018. Written by the National Infrastructure Council (NIC) once per parliament, the National Infrastructure Assessment (NIA) outlines a 30-year strategy with recommendations on.. you guessed it, national infrastructure. It’s been announced that the next one will be published in 2023 with work commencing this Autumn to inform the content of it, including consultation and analysis.

Today the NIC’s corporate plan was published outlining the next 3 years, including process and timelines for the NIA. It plans to commence with analysis on key infrastructure sectors.

Is Construction Really Lagging in Technology Adoption?

Beable Saves Construction From COVID

Luckily, technology exists so Construction sites can stay open and take care of their workers with beable® Wearable which has been deployed at a large north London site to keep workers safe and productive; it facilitates physical distancing as well as interaction tracking. Co-developed by Electronic Media Services and COMIT Projects and funded by Innovate UK, the new technology has been well received and plans to rollout to further sites in Q2 this year are underway.

Formula 1 Wheel Saves Crane Energy

Keir is trialling technology (PUNCH Flybrid flywheel) that decreases crane generator fuel usage by reducing generator size. It does that by capturing energy from the vehicle or machine that would normally be wasted, store it in the flywheel and use it to power the machine. We wonder if Lewis could be driving the crane.

1,760 new in homes 46 story development in West London

Hammersmith and Fulham Council approved plans for 1,760 new homes across 9 blocks up to 45 stories in height. The £1.3m development by Whitmore will include 355 affordable homes (20%) and consist of almost 1.5 acres of public space plus pedestrian connections. Now all that has to be decided is who is going to live in them.
