Introduction

A leading provider of infrastructure services in the UK and part of the top 10 UK construction group Morgan Sindall plc recently secured a £38 million contract with Thames Water. This case study explores the deployment of OptiBond system to ensure seamless connectivity for the project.

Project Overview

The project, managed by the tunnelling business unit, involves extending the existing Thames Water Ring Main. The extension consists of a 4.7km tunnel with a diameter of 2.5m and two shafts up to 60m deep.

Challenge

A critical challenge for the project was establishing data links between the site-based staff and the head office corporate systems at project start-up, especially when traditional BT links were unavailable.

Solution: OptiBond deployment

Following extensive trials at head office the company installed OptiBond at the Honor Oak site. OptiBond can access 4G, 5G, LEO and cellular networks.

Benefits

  • Immediately online: OptiBond enabled conectivity from day one.
  • Fully managed service: As a managed service supplied by EMS, OptiBond imposed minimal additional support demands on the IT department.

Testimonial

The IT systems manager said,

“The OptiBond has enabled IT services to be provided from day one. As OptiBond is a ‘managed service’ supplied by EMS, there are little additional support demands on the IT department.”

Conclusion

The successful deployment of OptiBond by Morgan Est highlights the importance of innovative solutions in overcoming connectivity challenges in large-scale infrastructure projects.
