Largest UK explosive demolition in 75 years The largest explosive demolition in 75 years has occurred at Redcar by Thompsons.  1.6 tonnes of explosives levelled the 65m Basic Oxygen Steelmaking Plant in Redcar with three blasts over 7 seconds. The demolition is part of the regeneration of Teesside including Teesworks Freeport. The cost of remediating the site of the old steelworks is said to be £180m.
